Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. In 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a former panelist and host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. She covered a wide range of notable stories, including arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently along with President Reagan to summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
